Nancy Molina, a 33-year-old Latina, died Monday, July 4, after she was beaten and strangled in the 5200 block of Brookdale Road in South Gate, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
South Gate police were called about 4:20 a.m., after Molina’s boyfriend, Oscar Rodriguez Jr., called 911 and said his girlfriend was having difficulty breathing, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. John Corina.
Officers discovered that Molina had multiple traumatic injuries, Corina said. Paramedics performed CPR on Molina and then took her to a nearby hospital.
Rodriguez allegedly told investigators that the couple had been drinking and that Molina had fallen, Corina said. However, doctors at the hospital told investigators that her injuries seemed too severe for a fall.

Kris Malcolm Anderson, a 57-year-old white man, died Sunday, June 12, after he was struck in the head and torso in the 1300 block of 5th Street in Santa Monica, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Anderson was found unconscious on 5th Street about 5 p.m. Saturday, June 11, with “substantial head trauma” and stab wounds, according to a news release from the Santa Monica Police Department.
He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead at 4:40 a.m., from blunt force trauma to his head and torso, and a stab wound to his face, according to coroner’s records.

Randolph John Morales, a 51-year-old Latino, died Monday after he was struck and dragged by a car in the 500 block of North Azusa Avenue in Valinda, near La Puente, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Morales and his girlfriend, Sharon Kay Hood, 52, were staying at the Azusa Inn and got into an argument about 2:24 a.m., said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Eddie Hernandez.
Hood decided to leave and went to her car with a family member who had also been in the room, Hernandez said.
Investigators have conflicting information about what happened next, Hernandez said, but witnesses said Morales ran out of the room and stood behind the car to try to prevent Hood from leaving.
Hood allegedly accelerated and backed over Morales, dragging him several feet, Hernandez said.

Maria Yslas, an 82-year-old Latina, died Saturday, May 7, after she was beaten in the 300 block of South Woods Avenue in East Los Angeles, according to coroner’s records.
Yslas was in the home she shared with her daughter, granddaughter and great-grandchildren on May 6, when her granddaughter allegedly began to hit her, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Det. Theo Baljet.
“As far as we can tell, she got upset at her grandma and beat her up,” said Baljet. “She punched her and kicked her and possibly choked her.”
Yslas was taken to the hospital that evening with multiple injuries and was pronounced dead at 10:22 a.m. the following day, according to coroner’s records.
The granddaughter, Rebecca Surratt, a 25-year-old black woman, was arrested that evening and charged with murder.

Armida Custodio, a 78-year-old Latina, was found dead Wednesday, May 4, in the 11300 block of Terra Vista Way in Lake View Terrace, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 9:15 p.m., officers from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Foothill Division responded to a welfare check at a home, police said. After no one answered the door, officers went inside and found Custodio unconscious and not breathing.
Investigators determined that Custodio had been dead for some time. Custodio suffered blunt-force trauma, according to coroner’s records.
Police said they were looking for the woman’s grandson, Joseph "Joey" Kushner, 36, who has not been seen since May 2.
Kushner was the last person to see her alive, police said. Kushner remains outstanding. Police said he uses public transportation, especially buses.

Dong Yul Lee, an 84-year-old Korean man, died Monday, April 11, nine days after he was fatally beaten near South Grand Avenue and West 8th Street in downtown, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Shortly before 3:40 p.m. April 2, officers from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Central Division were flagged down to help a man who was being assaulted, said LAPD Det. Doug Pierce.
A man walked up to Lee, began yelling at him, then punched Lee, Pierce said.
The man then kicked him and stomped on him.
A nearby security guard witnessed the attack and pepper-sprayed the suspected assailant, later identified by authorities as LaFawn Moses Parker, a 46-year-old black man.
Lee was taken to a hospital, where he remained until he was pronounced dead April 11.

Yanet Odilia Palma-Perez, a 41-year-old Latina, died Thursday, April 7, after sustaining blunt-force trauma in the 1600 block of West 51st Street in Vermont Square, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
About 9 a.m., officers responded to a battery in progress at a home, said Los Angeles police Det. Dave Garrido. Palma-Perez was found in her bedroom with blunt-force trauma, Garrido said.
Palma-Perez was pronounced dead at the scene, according to coroner's records.
Palma-Perez’s husband, Hugo Merino Cruz, a 36-year-old Latino, was arrested on suspicion of murder.
Cruz was charged with murder April 11 and is due back in court April 28, according to court records.
Mark Curtis Magurean, a 57-year-old white man, died Wednesday, March 16, two months after he was struck in the head in the 300 block of East Avenue I in Lancaster, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
On Jan. 22, Magurean, a Lancaster resident, got into an argument with another Lancaster resident, Timony Munroe, 33, that escalated into a physical fight, according to a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department news release.
Magurean suffered a blunt-force injury to the head and was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead March 16, according to the release.
Munroe left the scene after the fight, but was arrested Jan. 27. He pleaded guilty to battery with great bodily injury, and was sentenced to seven years in state prison, according to the news release.
