Paula Barrajan Montoya, a 64-year-old Latina, was pronounced dead Thursday, July 21, after she was strangled in the 6600 block of Pine Avenue in Bell, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Her granddaughter, Sarah Montoya, 24, is scheduled to be arraigned Aug. 25 in the Los Angeles County Superior Court’s Norwalk Courthouse.
Bell police went to check on Paula Montoya around 7:30 a.m. at the request of her son, who lives out of state, said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. Mike Rosson. The son said he usually spoke to his mother daily, but he hadn't heard from her for several days.
When officers entered the house, they found Montoya’s body in the bathroom, wrapped in blankets and clear plastic, Rosson said. She was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:40 a.m., according to coroner’s records. ...
Rashell Laverne Clarke Jr., a 39-year-old black man, died Saturday, Feb. 6, after a fight in the California State Prison, 44750 60th St. West in Lancaster, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Clarke, an inmate at the prison, got into a disagreement with his cellmate that morning and the two began to fight, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Joe Mendoza. Guards found him unresponsive in his cell at 10:48 a.m., according to a news release from the Department of Corrections.
During the fight, Clarke received some kind of trauma to his head, Mendoza said. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:26 a.m., according to coroner’s records. Autopsy results are not yet complete.
Clarke's cellmate, Leron Leon Morris, a 33-year-old black man, was treated for injuries and returned to the custody of the state prison, Mendoza said ...
Carl Alexander Hall, a 37-year-old black man, was found strangled on Dec. 16, 2015, in the 300 block of West 74th Street in Florence, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 10 a.m., LAPD officers responded to a call of an unresponsive man in an alley, police said. Paramedics arrived shortly after and pronounced Hall dead at 10:08 a.m. A subsequent autopsy revealed that he had died from strangulation.
LAPD Det. Chris Barling said Hall was living in transitional home in the area before his death. Police have not yet determined a motive.

Felix Potter, a 41-year-old white man, was found dead Tuesday, Nov. 10, in the 600 block of West 57th Street in Vermont-Slauson, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 10 a.m., two workers cleaning out an apartment found Potter inside a refrigerator, police said. Potter was in the process of being evicted from the home, where he had lived for about two years.
Police said there were no obvious signs of a break in and it’s unclear how long the body was in the apartment. An autopsy performed by the Los Angeles County coroner determined that Potter died of strangulation, said Ed Winter, assistant chief of investigations for the coroner’s office.
Los Angeles police Det. Chris Barling said that police have identified a 57-year-old suspect, who is already in custody on an unrelated charge.
