Rashell Laverne Clarke Jr., a 39-year-old black man, died Saturday, Feb. 6, after a fight in the California State Prison, 44750 60th St. West in Lancaster, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Clarke, an inmate at the prison, got into a disagreement with his cellmate that morning and the two began to fight, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Joe Mendoza. Guards found him unresponsive in his cell at 10:48 a.m., according to a news release from the Department of Corrections.
During the fight, Clarke received some kind of trauma to his head, Mendoza said. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:26 a.m., according to coroner’s records. Autopsy results are not yet complete.

Carl Alexander Hall, a 37-year-old black man, was found strangled on Dec. 16, 2015, in the 300 block of West 74th Street in Florence, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 10 a.m., LAPD officers responded to a call of an unresponsive man in an alley, police said. Paramedics arrived shortly after and pronounced Hall dead at 10:08 a.m. A subsequent autopsy revealed that he had died from strangulation.
LAPD Det. Chris Barling said Hall was living in transitional home in the area before his death. Police have not yet determined a motive.

Felix Potter, a 41-year-old white man, was found dead Tuesday, Nov. 10, in the 600 block of West 57th Street in Vermont-Slauson, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 10 a.m., two workers cleaning out an apartment found Potter inside a refrigerator, police said. Potter was in the process of being evicted from the home, where he had lived for about two years.
Police said there were no obvious signs of a break in and it’s unclear how long the body was in the apartment. An autopsy performed by the Los Angeles County coroner determined that Potter died of strangulation, said Ed Winter, assistant chief of investigations for the coroner’s office.
Los Angeles police Det. Chris Barling said that police have identified a 57-year-old suspect, who is already in custody on an unrelated charge.

Lajoya McCoy, a 31-year-old black woman, was found dead Tuesday, June 16, in the 200 block of West Cypress Avenue in Monrovia, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Family members reported McCoy missing June 15 after she missed some appointments, said Lt. Victor Lewandowski. She had last been seen the week before, he said.
That day, Monrovia police officers went to her apartment in the 800 block of West Olive Avenue, found evidence of foul play and asked the Sheriff’s Department for assistance in investigating her disappearance.
Investigators did an extensive search the following morning and found McCoy’s car on Cypress Avenue, about a mile from her home. The body of a black female was found inside, however, “due to the condition of the remains,” investigators were not able to immediately identify the body, Lewandowski said.

Jacquline Montoya Rieux, 25, was killed June 4 in the 11100 block of South Normandie Avenue in Westmont, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department detectives.
Rieux’s 2-month-old son, Joshua, was also found dead at the scene.
Investigators have not released the cause of death or other details about the victims.
Jacquline Rieux’s husband, Algernon Fitzgerald Rieux, a 26-year-old black man, was arrested on suspicion of two counts of murder June 5.
The June 4 incident began at 8:12 a.m., when South Los Angeles Station deputies received a call about a baby not breathing, according to a Sheriff’s Department news release.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they found a woman outside performing CPR on the infant. The woman told deputies that there was another person inside -- Jacquline Rieux -- who also needed help.

Cassandra Marcella Olsen-Silagyi, a 48-year-old black woman, was found dead Monday, May 4, in the 8700 block of Sepulveda Boulevard in Panorama City, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Olsen-Silagyi and a 58-year-old man had been sharing an apartment for about a month, authorities said.
Lately, the two had been arguing because the man had tried to evict her. On May 4, police received a call from a woman who said she believed someone was trying to dispose of a body at the apartment building.
Police went to the building and found the woman’s body, stuffed in a closet. Prosecutors said that Olsen-Silagyi had been dead since about May 1.
