Cynthia Ambriz, a 19-year-old Latina, was fatally shot Saturday, June 11, East Carson Street and South Evonda Avenue in Carson, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Ambriz was walking with a female friend about 12:10 a.m. when a man ran up behind them and opened fire, said Los Angeles County sheriff’s Lt. Steve Jauch.
“We don’t know if he targeted the victim, but our victim was the only one who was shot,” Jauch said.
Ambriz, who lived in Wilmington, was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:25 a.m., according to coroner’s records.
The suspect, Alexander Espino, a 19-year-old from Compton, was seen running to a nearby residence, where he was arrested a short time later on suspicion of murder, Jauch said. He is being held without bail.

Aaron James Pritchard, a 21-year-old black man, was fatally shot Monday, May 16, as he was standing in the 1600 block of East Gladwick Avenue in Carson, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Pritchard was talking with a group of friends outside a residence near his home about 7:45 p.m., when a man parked a light-colored, two-door sedan nearby, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Eddie Hernandez.
The man walked up to the group, who seemed to know him, Hernandez said.
“That’s what’s kind of strange. It seems like everybody knows who this guy is except us,” Hernandez said. “He walks up, and they greet each other, a real polite exchange of pleasantries, and then the suspect pulls a handgun and starts shooting at the victim.”

Justin Vaesna Uy, an 18-year-old Asian man, died Wednesday, April 20, after he was shot at the corner of East 228th Street and Dolores Street in Carson, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Uy, a star volleyball player about to graduate from Carson High School, left his house on April 12 to meet a friend near his home, which in front of Dolores Street Elementary School, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Joe Mendoza.
When the friend arrived about 12:20 a.m., he found Uy lying on the sidewalk with multiple gunshot wounds.
Uy was taken to a hospital in critical condition. He was pronounced dead eight days later at 10:45 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

Anthony Renee Beamon Jr., a 36-year-old black man, was shot and killed Sunday, March 6, in the 900 block of West Victoria Street in Compton, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Beamon was attending a party with about 150 other adults in a commercial building that had been rented for the occasion, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Joe Mendoza said.
An argument broke out around 1:35 a.m. and one of the party-goers pulled out a handgun and began shooting, Mendoza said.

Giovanni Lyiscott, an 18-year-old black man, died Saturday, Feb. 20, after he was shot in the 17400 block of Prondall Court in Carson, according to authorities.
His father, Anderson Edward Lyiscott, 53, was charged with one count of murder in the case, with the special allegation that he personally and intentionally discharged a handgun that caused great bodily injury and death, according to a news release from the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

William Treas, a 30-year-old Latino, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, after he was shot in the 21900 block of South Grace Avenue in Carson, according to Los Angeles County sheriff's investigators.
Treas was riding his bicycle south on Grace Avenue, a residential neighborhood about a block from his home, when he was approached by two Latinos about 6:55 p.m., according to Los Angeles County sheriff's Lt. Eddie Hernandez.
The two men began shooting at Treas, who reportedly returned fire with his own handgun, Hernandez said.
Treas suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene, Hernandez said. No other injuries were reported, he said, but some vehicles in the area were damaged by bullets.
The two suspects, described as being about 17 to 20 years old, ran south on Grace Avenue and then east through multiple residences, Hernandez said.
Johnny Danny Delgado, a 16-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Friday, Jan. 1, in the 23400 block of South Avalon Boulevard in Carson, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Delgado lived in the condominium complex where the shooting occurred, said Los Angeles County sheriff’s Lt. Dave Coleman. He was standing in the driveway between the complex’s garages about 8:29 p.m. when he was shot multiple times by two males wearing hoodies, the lieutenant said.
Investigators have no other suspect descriptions, and no information about where the assailants went after the shooting. Coleman said.
“We’re not getting much help from possible witnesses,” he said.
Delgado was a gang member, and investigators believe the shooting was gang-related.

Adalberto Salcedo III, a 15-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Saturday, Oct. 17, in the 23900 block of Avalon Boulevard in Carson, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Salcedo was walking with a female friend about 4:30 p.m. near the intersection of Avalon and East Sepulveda Boulevard when they were approached by a silver or white four-door vehicle, according to a Los Angeles County Sheriff's department news release.
Two black males wearing hoodies got out of the car and shot Salcedo multiple times, according to the news release. They then jumped back into their car and drove east on Sepulveda.
