Jose Rafael Raya, a 20-year-old Latino, died Saturday, Dec. 17, after he was shot at the intersection of 130th Street and Wilmington Avenue in Compton, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Raya was in his neighborhood, driving west on 130th Street with his girlfriend in the front passenger seat, when he stopped at Wilmington Street about 6:45 p.m., said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Steve Jauch.
It appeared that Raya was preparing to turn northbound on Wilmington when someone in a white sedan on Raya's driver’s side began shooting, Jauch said.
One bullet struck Raya in the head, and he slumped forward over the steering wheel, Jauch said. Deputies found Raya's car stopped in the street. Raya was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:57 p.m., according to coroner’s records. His girlfriend was not injured. ...
Julio Cesar Ramirez Valencia, a 41-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Friday, Nov. 25, on McKinley Avenue north of 135th Street in Compton, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department records.
Ramirez Valencia was driving north in the 13400 block of Stanford Avenue about 4:35 p.m. when he came upon two black men walking in the street, said Lt. Joe Mendoza.
The three men “had a brief exchange of words,” Mendoza said, and as Ramirez Valencia continued driving, one of the pedestrians pulled out a gun and began shooting at the car.
The men on foot then ran the opposite direction, south on Stanford Avenue, a block east on 135th Street and then north on McKinley Street, according to witnesses.

Derrick Devone Gould, a 26-year-old black man, was shot and killed Monday, Oct. 17, in the 1100 block of West Cressey Street in Compton, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
L.A. County sheriff’s deputies were near Gonzales Park Community Center about 5:45 p.m. when they heard gunshots in the park, said Sgt. Robert Martindale.
When the deputies reached the park, they saw 50 to 60 people “dispersing in all directions,” Martindale said, apparently trying to get away from the gunshots.
The deputies drove into the park and discovered Gould lying on a park bench. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:50 p.m., with gunshot wounds to his head and thigh, according to coroner records.

Tony Rodrick Welch, a 24-year-old black man, died Monday, Oct. 17, after he was shot in the 600 block of West Cherry Street in Compton, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Welch was sitting in his car with two friends on Sunday, Oct. 16, after pulling up to the curb outside one of their homes around 10 p.m., said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Steve Jauch.
Two men walked up to either side of the car and tried unsuccessfully to open the doors, Jauch said. The man on the driver’s side then began shooting through the windshield.
Welch, who was in the driver’s seat, was struck in the head, Jauch said. His friend in the passenger seat was shot in the lower torso. The third person was in the back seat and was uninjured.

Douglas Anthony Green, a 38-year-old black male, was shot and killed Friday, Sept. 23, in the 2500 block of West Compton Boulevard in Compton, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Green was walking in his neighborhood when he was shot about 4:42 a.m., Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Steve Jauch said.
Residents called 911 to report gunfire, and deputies found Green lying on the street with multiple gunshot wounds, Jauch said. Green was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:53 a.m., according to coroner’s records.
Investigators found seven shell casings at the scene, according to coroner’s records. No one reported seeing the shooting, Jauch said, so investigators don’t have any suspect information.

Delmus Eugene Wilkerson, a 71-year-old black man, died of suffocation Saturday, Aug. 27, in the 800 block of West 134th Street in Compton, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Wilkerson lived in a shed on the property, which he was renting from the homeowner, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. John Corina.
Investigators believe Wilkerson was selling drugs from his residence and was killed when two men came inside his home early that morning and tried to rob him, Corina said.
Someone at the residence called 911 upon finding Wilkerson’s body, Corina said.
Wilkerson was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:43 a.m. The coroner’s office later ruled the death a homicide by asphyxiation.
Investigators believe someone put a plastic bag over Wilkerson's head during the robbery, Corina said.

Donta Gurrell Taylor, a 31-year-old black man, was shot and killed by Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies on Thursday, Aug. 25, near the concrete-lined wash basin by West Arbutus Street and North Kemp Avenue in Compton, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Deputies who had been chasing Taylor shot the man, said Lt. Steve Jauch. Taylor was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:30 p.m. with multiple gunshot wounds, according to coroner’s records.
Authorities said Taylor pointed a handgun at the deputies, but investigators have been unable to find a weapon, Jauch said.

Branden Marcel Davis, a 21-year-old black man, was shot and killed Monday, Aug. 1, in the 500 block of North Sloan Avenue in Compton, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputies went to Davis' home after receiving a 911 call about gunshots about 10:40 p.m.
Deputies found Davis lying in his driveway with multiple gunshot wounds, said Lt. Steve Jauch. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead at 11:10 p.m., according to coroner's records.
Investigators learned that a man confronted Davis in his frontyard and fired several shots at him, Jauch said.
"We have no suspect description other than he was a male," Jauch said.
