Miracle Treasure McGowan, a 15-year-old black girl, died Thursday, Jan. 11, after being shot in the 9300 block of South Hooper Avenue in the Florence-Firestone neighborhood of South Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Miracle was sitting in the front passenger seat of her mother’s SUV, with her mother at the wheel, when someone began shooting at the car around 9 p.m., Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Joe Mendoza said.
The car was parked next to the curb outside the family’s home when the shooting began, and Miracle was closest to the gunfire, Mendoza said. Friends told KCBS-TV Channel 2 that Miracle, her mother and a female friend had gotten into the car to go get something to eat.

Luis Alberto Fuentes Jr., a 22-year-old Latino, died Monday, Oct. 16, after he was shot in the 8600 block of Graham Avenue in the Florence-Firestone area of South Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Fuentes was standing outside a liquor store near Graham Avenue and Firestone Boulevard about 4 p.m. when he and another young man were confronted by a Latino in his early 20s, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Derrick Alfred.
The two men tried to run away, up onto the passenger platform of the Metro Blue Line Station at Graham Avenue and Firestone Boulevard, but the suspect followed them and chased them onto the gravel area between the tracks, Alfred said.
That’s where the gunman shot Fuentes, Alfred said. The other man was not injured.

Deshaun Anthony White, a 37-year-old black man, died Thursday, Sept. 14, after he was stabbed in the 5900 block of Holmes Avenue in the Florence-Firestone neighborhood of South Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
White was found lying on the sidewalk outside his home about 6:50 a.m. in the short residential block across from the Lillian Street Elementary School, according to coroner’s records.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the scene when paramedics “observed trauma to his body,” said Lt. Rodney Moore.
White was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:05 a.m., according to coroner’s records. The cause of death was listed as a stab wound to the chest.
Investigators don’t have any suspect information, Moore said.

Ruben Antonio Martinez Reyes, a 27-year-old Latino, died Thursday, Sept. 14, after he was shot in an alley behind the 9600 block of Kalmia Street in the Florence-Firestone neighborhood of South Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Investigators believe Martinez Reyes was walking in the alley in a neighborhood of homes and businesses when he was shot about 10:45 p.m., said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Rodney Moore.
Martinez Reyes was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:02 p.m., according to coroner’s records. The cause of death was listed as multiple gunshot wounds.
Investigators don’t have any suspect information or a motive for the shooting, Moore said.

Florencio Ramirez, a 44-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Saturday, Aug. 19, in the 1400 block of East 77th Street in the Florence-Firestone area of South Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Ramirez and a female friend were riding their bicycles about 12:45 a.m. a few blocks from his home when a car that had been parked around the corner drove up and someone inside opened fire, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Derrick Alfred said.
“We don’t know how long it was stopped there, but it sounds like the car was just lying in wait,” Alfred said.
The bullets struck Ramirez, his friend and another woman who was walking near the cyclists, Alfred said.
All three were taken to a hospital, Alfred said.

Pedro Alberto Zamora Jr., a 37-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Thursday, Aug. 17, in the 8200 block of Morton Avenue in the Florence-Firestone area of South Los Angeles, according to coroner's records.
Investigators think Zamora was either pushing or riding his bicycle on Morton Avenue around 2:40 p.m. when someone inside a car with tinted windows began shooting at him, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. Rodney Moore said.
Zamora was struck in his lower torso, Moore said. He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:07 p.m., according to coroner's records.
The shooter's vehicle, described as a dark-colored, four-door sedan, was last seen heading north on Morton Avenue, Moore said.
Zamora lived in the Highland Park area, about 14 miles north of where he was shot, according to coroner's records.

Jonathan “Johnny” Salas, a 17-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Friday, June 23, at East 92nd Street and South Hooper Avenue in the Florence-Firestone neighborhood of South Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Investigators think the teen, known as “Chino” to family and friends, was riding his bicycle home around 11 a.m. when he was struck by a stray bullet, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sgt. Guillermo Morales said.
Shortly before the shooting, two vehicles collided at the intersection, and the occupants had exited and begun fighting, Morales said, adding that their cars were blocking traffic.
Someone in a third vehicle, which police described as white, began shooting at the people who were fighting and struck the boy instead, Morales said. Investigators say Johnny was not involved in gangs and don’t think he was the intended target.

Rontion TJ Love, a 25-year-old black man, was fatally shot Thursday, June 8, in the 1700 block of Firestone Boulevard in the Florence-Firestone neighborhood of South Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Love and a friend had walked to the Lucky One Liquor store near his home around 5 p.m., Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sgt. Bill Cotter said.
While his friend shopped, Love went outside and stood on the sidewalk to the east of the door, Cotter said. Moments later, surveillance footage shows Love coming back inside the store with gunshot wounds to his upper torso.
His friend tried to stop the bleeding until help arrived, Cotter said. Love was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:32 p.m., according to coroner’s records.
