Natroy Deshawn Brown, a 32-year-old black man, was shot and killed on Monday, Jan. 16, at the corner of West Imperial Highway and Grevillea Avenue in Hawthorne, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
A passerby flagged down Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies about 6:42 p.m., saying there was a man lying in the busy commercial intersection, said Lt. Joe Mendoza.
When the deputies found the man, later identified as Brown, he was unconscious, with multiple gunshot wounds to the torso, Mendoza said.
Brown was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 7:18 p.m., according to coroner’s records.
Investigators don’t have any suspect information, but they believe Brown was shot as he was crossing the street less than a half an hour before the passerby alerted deputies, Mendoza said.

Constance Barnes, a 92-year-old white woman, died of blunt force trauma Friday, Dec. 16, in the 13200 block of Jefferson Avenue in Hawthorne, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Barnes and her son, Kenneth Barnes, a 69-year-old white man, were both found dead inside their home about 12:05 p.m., said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Steve Jauch.
The county Fire Department was called about noon when a passerby saw smoke coming from the house, Jauch said.
Firefighters found Barnes in the living room with blunt force trauma to her head and chest, Jauch said.
The living room was on fire, Jauch said. Paramedics tried to revive Barnes, but she was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:23 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

Jacare Demar Smith, a 36-year-old black man, was shot and killed Tuesday, Nov. 15, in the 3800 block of El Segundo Boulevard in Hawthorne, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records
Smith was standing with two other men in front of Young's Liquor Mart at the southwest corner of El Segundo Boulevard and Doty Avenue about 3:21 p.m., said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. Joe Mendoza.
Witnesses told investigators that a dark-colored four-door sedan pulled into the parking lot and three black men got out, Mendoza said. The men who got out of the car had a brief argument with one of the three men, then one of the men who got out of the car pulled out a gun and began firing.

David Joseph Macias, a 19-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Monday, Nov. 14, in the 4600 block of Imperial Highway near Eucalyptus Avenue in Hawthorne, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Macias was walking westbound on the sidewalk on Imperial Highway, heading toward his home, when two men approached him about 9 p.m., said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Joe Mendoza.
Witnesses reported hearing a brief argument, then gunshots, Mendoza said.
Macias was shot several times in the torso, Mendoza said. He ran west to Eucalyptus Avenue then turned south, collapsing in the 11500 block of Eucalyptus, not far from his home.

Devonte Raye, a 22-year-old black man, was shot and killed Monday, Oct. 24, in the 11900 block of Daleside Avenue in Hawthorne, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Raye, a former football player at Los Angeles Southwest Community College, had been visiting his girlfriend at her home shortly before he was shot, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Steve Jauch.
As Raye was getting into his car about 8:41 p.m., a man with a handgun walked up and began firing, Jauch said, striking him multiple times.

Raymond Lee Arnold, a 31-year-old black man, was shot and killed Saturday, July 16, in the 12800 block of Crenshaw Boulevard in Hawthorne, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Arnold was inside a barber shop called Updeh Cutz about 4 p.m. when he got into a confrontation with at least two other men in the shop in a strip mall at Crenshaw Boulevard and West El Segundo Boulevard, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. John Corina.
During the argument, at least one of the men pulled out a gun and fired at Arnold, Corina said.

William "Junior" Huluhold-Greathouse Fifita, a 20-year-old man of Tongan descent, was shot and killed Sunday, March 20, near West Rosecrans Avenue and Crenshaw Boulevard in Hawthorne, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Fifita and three friends attended a church dance in Torrance that evening and stopped for a meal at Fabulous Charbroiled Burgers at 3301 Rosecrans Ave. before heading home about 2:15 a.m., said Los Angeles County sheriff’s Lt. Steve Jauch.
A few blocks away from the burger restaurant, Fifita stopped at Crenshaw Boulevard and was about to make a left turn when another car pulled up on the right side, Jauch said. One or more people inside began shooting.

Kevin L. Martin, a 45-year-old black man, died Friday, Nov. 13, after he was shot in the 12900 block of Doty Avenue in Hawthorne, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Martin was standing with his cousin in the driveway outside his apartment about 3:50 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 12, when a man drove up and began shooting, according to Hawthorne Police Lt. Aimee Yoshida.
The two men were taken to a nearby hospital. Martin was put on life support, Yoshida said. He was pronounced dead the following day at 3:31 p.m., according to coroner’s records. His cousin was treated for a gunshot wound in his arm and released.

Cruise Skipps, a 23-year-old Samoan man, was shot and killed Tuesday, June 2 in the 13000 block of Prairie Avenue in Hawthorne, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records and law enforcement.
About 1:30 a.m., Skipps and a woman went to the woman’s estranged husband’s apartment, said Lt. Dave Coleman with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The woman was at the apartment to collect some of the her belongings. As Skipps and the woman were leaving, the man pulled out a rifle and shot Skipps, Coleman said.
Skipps was pronounced dead at the scene. Skipps ran a short distance and died on the sidewalk. The woman was not injured.
Sheriff’s investigators identified the gunman as the woman's estranged husband, Christopher Angelo Fennelle, a 25-year-old black man. He was arrested on suspicion of murder and is being held on $1-million bail.
Donyea Davis, a 22-year-old black man, was shot and killed Friday May 22, in the 12100 block of Birch Avenue in Hawthorne, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Shortly after 5:30 p.m., the Hawthorne Police Department responded to a call of a person down at an apartment complex. When police arrived they found Davis in the courtyard of the complex, suffering from a gunshot wound, according to a news release from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, which is aiding in the investigation.
Davis was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:36 p.m., said Ed Winter, assistant chief of investigations for the coroner’s office.
