Yong Hoon “Kevin” Yoo, a 29-year-old Asian man, was fatally shot Tuesday, June 7, in the 600 block of South Berendo Street in Koreatown, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Shortly before 5:30 p.m., officers from the Los Angeles Police Department's Olympic Division found Yoo with gunshot wounds. Yoo was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 6:26 p.m., according to coroner’s records.
Investigators believe that Yoo suddenly attacked a woman and stabbed her in the parking garage of an apartment complex,said LAPD Det. Scott Masterson. The woman’s boyfriend, who was inside a nearby car, jumped out and shot Yoo, Masterson said.
The shooter was questioned and released. Police are still investigating and are so far unsure why Yoo stabbed the woman, Masterson said.
“The shooter nor the victim knew the suspect,” he said.
Jin Young Park, a 34-year-old Korean man, was found dead Sunday, Jan. 31, in the 3400 block of West 7th Street in Koreatown, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 7:15 a.m., a person saw a man going through Park’s belongings on the sidewalk, said Lt. John Radtke with the Los Angeles Police Department. The person called police, who detained the man, then discovered that Park was dead, Radtke said.
Park, who had a single gunshot wound, was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:25 a.m., according to coroner’s records.
Investigators interviewed residents who reported hearing a gunshot about 4:30 a.m., but they are looking for witnesses to the shooting.
The man going through Park’s belongings didn’t realize that Park was dead, and he is not a suspect.

Gladis Maribel Sicajan-Albir, a 39-year-old Latina, was shot and killed Friday, Jan. 8 in the 3300 block of James M. Wood Boulevard in Koreatown, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 6:30 a.m., officers were called to a report of a shooting and found Sicajan-Albir unresponsive in the front seat of her four-door sedan, said Lt. John Radtke with the Los Angeles Police Department.
Sicajan-Albir was pronounced dead at 7:22 a.m., according to coroner’s records.
A witness told police that the gunman fled north on South Harvard Boulevard, Radtke said. About 20 minutes later, officers received another call of a shooting at South Harvard and Wilshire boulevards.
When officers arrived, they found Sicajan-Albir’s estranged husband with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Peter Yu, a 28-year-old Korean man, was shot and killed Sunday, Dec. 13, in the 3900 block of Wilshire Boulevard in Koreatown, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Shortly after 9:30 p.m., Yu was inside an SUV in a parking lot behind a strip mall when a man approached and began shooting him, said Lt. John Radtke with the Los Angeles Police Department.
The gunman then ran south on South Gramercy Place to Wilshire Boulevard. Witnesses told police that the man, described as an Asian, was wearing a black bomber-style jacket and a black hat, Radtke said.
Police are trying to determine a motive behind the shooting, Radtke said.
