Randall Scott Fletcher, a 22-year-old Latino, died Wednesday, April 25, after he was shot in Ashiya Park, 2700 W. Beverly Blvd. in Montebello, according to coroner’s records.
Fletcher was sitting in the park around 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 21, when someone came up behind him and shot him in the head, said Det. Paul Antista, a homicide detective for the Montebello Police Department.
A woman walking through the park called police around 4:30 p.m. saying she had seen Fletcher sitting up earlier and thought it was weird that he was now lying in the grass, Antista said.
Fletcher was taken to the hospital, where he died four days later at 4:46 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

Christopher Michael Diaz, a 26-year-old Latino, was shot and killed by authorities on Friday, Aug. 18, in the 2900 block of West Via Corona in Montebello, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
For almost two weeks, Montebello police and agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives searched for Diaz, who they thought had fatally shot his estranged wife, Roxann Acosta, 28. She was 15 weeks’ pregnant when she was killed.
Authorities found Diaz a few miles from his mother’s house, where Acosta and her unborn child died, according to a police report.

Ricardo Baltazar Mota, a 33-year-old Latino, was killed Monday, March 27, after he was shot in the 800 block of North Garfield Avenue in Montebello, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Investigators think Mota met someone in the parking lot of Our Lady of Miraculous Medal Catholic Church that evening while parishioners were inside during a prayer group meeting, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sgt. Marcelo Quintero said.
Around 8:45 p.m., the Montebello Police Department received calls about shots fired in an area near the church, Quintero said.
“The street is full of apartment complexes, so the officers assumed it came from one of those complexes, but they didn’t find anything,” Quintero said. “Then, a few minutes later, the parishioners came out to the parking lot and found a man slumped over in his car.”

Brian Lee Gomez, a 28-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Monday, Sept 28, in the 1600 block of Neil Armstrong Street in Montebello, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Gomez, who lived in Long Beach, went to Montebello to sell a gold necklace to a man he had met through the website OfferUp, according to Montebello Police Lt. Andy Vuncannon.
Security cameras in the area show that Gomez met the man about 6:30 p.m., Vuncannon said. The man pulled out an assault rifle, chased Gomez past other people on the street and fired at Gomez's feet in what investigators believe was a robbery, Vuncannon said.
As Gomez reached into his pocket where he was holding the necklace, the gunman shot him and ran away, leaving the necklace behind, Vuncannon said.

Norman David Benavidez, a 41-year-old Latino, died Thursday, July 13, 2015, after he was shot in the 200 block of North Second Street in Montebello, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Benavidez was in a vegetative state for more than a year before he died from an infection, according to coroner’s records.The autopsy report revealed that infection developed from complications after sustaining gunshot wounds in a home-invasion robbery in 2014.
At the time of the attack, Benavidez was a drug dealer and was targeted by one of his clients, 22-year-old Aaron Salvador Gallardo, LAPD Det. Al Martinez said said.
Prior to the attack, Gallardo ordered drugs, which he planned to steal with help from his stepfather, Paul Montanez, 38, and friend, Miguel Enrique Marques, 23, Martinez said.

Roger Soriano, a 21-year-old Latino, was shot and killed early Saturday, July 18, in the 2100 block of West Whittier Boulevard in Montebello, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Montebello police Lt. Andy Vuncanon said Soriano and his companion, Kevin Fierro, a 23-year-old Latino, were shot and killed by a business man whom they allegedly tried to rob. Vuncanon said Soriano and Fierro were on a crime rampage that included a carjacking and another robbery earlier that evening.
The shooting incident began about 12:18 a.m., when Montebello police received a report about a robbery and shots being fired in the area.
