David Raymond Bernal, a 25-year-old Latino, was shot and killed on Sunday, Jan. 28, in the 15400 block of Lefloss Avenue in Norwalk, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Bernal and a friend, David Kirk Vergara, 27, were in the backyard of a Norwalk home in the early morning when Vergara showed Bernal a rifle, according to a Los Angeles County district attorney’s office news release.
The rifle discharged about 4:26 a.m., and Bernal was shot in the head, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Rodney Moore. He was pronounced dead at 4:29 a.m., according to coroner’s records.
Both men were drunk at the time of the shooting, Moore said, adding that he didn’t know whether either lived at the house.
Vergara was arrested at the scene, Moore said. On Jan. 30, he was charged with involuntary manslaughter ...
Bryan Erives, a 30-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Saturday, Dec. 2, in the 14400 block of Pioneer Boulevard in Norwalk, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Erives was sitting in his car behind R&G’s Food Basket around 8:50 p.m. when several Latino adults approached, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Derrick Alfred.
“They had a short conversation, asking him about his gang affiliation, and then one of them opened fire on him,” Alfred said.
He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:45 p.m., according to coroner’s records.
Witnesses heard the gunfire and saw the suspects running away, Alfred said. There were early reports about a brown jeep leaving the scene, but investigators aren’t sure whether the men got into a vehicle or fled on foot.

Geronimo “Jerry” Gutierrez III, a 43-year-old Latino, died Sunday, Nov. 5, after he was shot in the 10600 block of Imperial Highway in Norwalk, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Gutierrez was shopping at an Arco convenience store at 10602 Imperial Highway around 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4, when a 16-year-old girl accidentally bumped into him in the store, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Joe Mendoza.
Authorities said the girl’s boyfriend, Nakia Deshone Smith, then began arguing with Gutierrez, and the dispute escalated into a physical fight in the store.
At some point, Smith went to his car, returned with a gun and began shooting, Mendoza said.
The bullets struck Gutierrez in the head and torso, according to coroner’s records. He was taken to a hospital, where he died at 6:56 p.m. the following day.
