James Anthony Brown, a 31-year-old black man, was fatally shot Monday, May 29, in the 13700 block of South Willowbrook Avenue in the Willowbrook area of South Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Brown, a Compton resident, was standing outside in a residential area with a few other people around 7:30 p.m. when he got into an argument with another man, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Rodney Moore said.
The man pulled a gun and began shooting, striking Brown and one of his companions, Moore said.
Brown was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:41 p.m. The other shooting victim, a Latino from Compton, was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive, Moore said.
Percy Roberto Sisniega, a 38-year-old Latino from Lynwood, was arrested later that day, Moore said, based on witness reports.
Luis Saldana, a 28-year-old Latino, died Sunday, April 2, after he was shot and run over in the 12700 block of South Avalon Boulevard in South Los Angeles neighborhood of Willowbrook, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Saldana was driving north on Avalon Boulevard, with his wife in the front passenger seat, when a black Honda ran into the back of their car shortly after midnight, said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. Steve Jauch.
Investigators believe that the black Honda was in a race with another vehicle when the crash occurred, Jauch said.
The accident was minor, Jauch said, but almost immediately after the crash, two men got out of the Honda and began fighting with Saldana. "They were punching him, striking him with their fists," Jauch said.

Dion Leonard Moss, a 45-year-old black man, died Wednesday, Dec. 7, after he was shot at the corner of Compton Avenue and 118th Street in Compton, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Investigators were called about 4:35 p.m. about gunshots, said Lt. Joe Mendoza.
Police found Moss, who had been shot multiple times, sitting in the driver’s seat of a parked car, Mendoza said. Moss’s two adult passengers, a black woman and a black man, were not injured.
Moss was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:48 p.m. with a gunshot wound to the head, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Witnesses said the three friends were talking in the parked car when another car pulled up and at least one person inside began shooting, Mendoza said.

Donald Dewayne Gathright, a 33-year-old black man, was shot and killed on Saturday, Dec. 3, in the 300 block of East 142nd Street in Willowbrook, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Gathright lived in Moreno Valley, according to coroner's records, but he was visiting friends about 5:12 p.m. when the shooting occurred, said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Sgt. Troy Ewing.
"All we know is he was hanging out with some people outside and then gunshots were heard," Ewing said. "A neighbor looked out the window, saw the victim lying on the driveway and called 911. When deputies arrived, several people were hanging out on the street, but they refused to give us any assistance or accounts about what happened."

Ruben Castellanos, a 27-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Monday, Aug. 22, in the 300 block of East 129th Street in unincorporated Willowbrook, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records. Castellanos also went by the name Jonathan Alfredo Lopez-Guzman.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies were called about 8:23 p.m. regarding a gunshot victim, said Lt. Joe Mendoza. They found Castellanos lying in the street next to his car with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body, Mendoza said.
Castellanos was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead at 8:55 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

The married father of four was celebrating his 39th birthday at his home the night he was shot, said L.A. County Sheriff’s Department Lt. John Corina.

Cordero Dougal, a 26-year-old black man, was shot and killed Thursday, Aug. 4, in the 1300 block of East Imperial Highway in the Willowbrook neighborhood of South Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Dougal and his 22-year-old girlfriend were sitting in his white sedan in the parking lot of a 76 gas station and market about 12:50 a.m. when another sedan pulled up on the driver’s side of the car, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Joe Mendoza.

Marcos Perez, a 22-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Tuesday, June 28, in the 13800 block of South Avalon Boulevard in the Willowbrook area of South Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
The incident began when Perez, who is suspected of being a gang member, walked up to three men who were sitting in the courtyard outside their apartments around 10 p.m., talking and drinking.
Witnesses told investigators that shortly before Perez appeared, a large, dark-colored American-made sedan drove along the alley next to the courtyard without stopping, Rosson said.
