Arturo Valdez, a 27-year-old Latino, was shot and killed by Los Angeles police on Sunday, April 10, in the 200 block of Park Paseo Lane in Boyle Heights, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 8:30 p.m., multiple residents called 911 about a burglary at a home, police said. LAPD Chief Charlie Beck told reporters that a man had smashed the windows of a house where an 83-year-old man lived alone.
The man, later identified as Valdez, forced his way inside and began ransacking the home, Beck said, then took the older man hostage.
"The suspect had been so loud and violent in his attack, smashing the windows to get in the house, that it alerted the whole neighborhood,” Beck said.

About 7 p.m. on April 5, officers responded to a call of a man with mental illness at a home, according to a news release from the Los Angeles Police Department. Officers arrived and were directed inside a home where they saw Frias and two other males, according to the news release.

The incident began around 4 a.m. when the sheriff's department received a call about a robbery in progress at Gage Street and Holmes Avenue, an intersection with several businesses in the Firestone-Florence area, The Times reported.

Martin Rene Hurtado, a 21-year-old Latino, was shot and killed after an incident with Long Beach Police officers Thursday, March 10, near East 68th Street and Long Beach Boulevard in Long Beach, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Officers were patrolling in the area about 6:23 p.m., as part of the department’s new focus on removing guns from city streets, when “they observed a vehicle code violation,” according to a department news release. The violation was not described.
The vehicle began driving through the neighborhood in a “suspicious and evasive manner,” according to the release. Osvaldo Torres, a 41-year-old Latino, was killed during an officer-involved shooting Sunday, March 6, at Tweedy Boulevard and Burtis Street in South Gate, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
The incident started about 1 a.m. when South Gate Police officers tried to pull a car over for failing to stop at a stop sign, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Joe Mendoza said.
The driver of the car, later identified as Torres, drove away at a high speed, and the officers chased him, Mendoza said.
The night was rainy, with poor driving conditions, so South Gate officers stopped the pursuit, Mendoza said. Rammy Sam Jaradat, a 26-year-old white man, was fatally shot by Los Angeles police Sunday, Feb. 14, in the 6900 block of Kester Avenue in Van Nuys, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 1 p.m., LAPD officers responded to reports of a “screaming woman who had been attacked by a man with a knife,” Chief Charlie Beck told police commissioners Feb. 16.
Officers arrived at an apartment and found one person with stab wounds and at least two other people with other injuries, Officer Matthew Ludwig said.
Other officers arrived on the scene and found Jaradat outside the apartment, armed with a knife, Ludwig said. It was unclear what prompted police to open fire.

Francisco Garcia, a 26-year-old Latino, was shot and killed by a Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy Wednesday, Feb. 24, at the corner of Alondra Boulevard and Studebaker Road in Norwalk, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Garcia was in an Acura Integra at a gas pump outside a 7-Eleven when a deputy noticed the car had been reported stolen from Whittier earlier in the day, Lt. Eddie Hernandez said.
