Almicar Ponce Jr., 21

Almicar Ponce Jr., a 21-year-old Native American, died Tuesday, June 23, after he was shot in the 4200 block of Wall Street in Historic South-Central, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Shortly before 2:30 a.m. on June 21, Ponce was standing on the sidewalk in front of a home when two vehicles drove up, said LAPD Det. Richard Arciniega. A person from each vehicle opened fire. A bullet struck Ponce in the head.

Ponce was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead two days later, on June 23, at 8:45 a.m.

Detectives are still trying to determine a description of the vehicles involved, Arciniega said.
