Ana Ortiz, 19

Ana Ortiz, a 19-year-old Latina, was shot and killed Wednesday, April 30 in the 6100 block of Brynhurst Avenue in Hyde Park, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.

Ortiz was standing in front of a home with between four and seven other people in their late teens and early 20s shortly before 1:30 p.m. when a man walked by the crowd, said Los Angeles police Det. Sal LaBarbera.

The man, who was across the street, fired several shots toward the group and Ortiz was struck. It is unclear whether she was the intended target.

Two of Ortiz’s friends drove her to Centinela Hospital Medical Center in Inglewood. Once she was there, she was taken to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 3:51 p.m.
