Andrew George Valadez, 26

Andrew George Valadez, a 26-year-old white man, was shot and killed Thursday, April 23, by a Los Angeles police officer near Tyler Street and Glenoaks Boulevard in Sylmar, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Shortly before 7 a.m. on April 22, people in the area called 911 to report a man waving a gun and threatening people, said LAPD Officer Tony Im.

When police arrived, they found Valadez pointing to his head with a weapon. Police tried to speak with Valadez, but according to police, he walked away, turned and aimed at the cops.

At least one officer shot Valadez in the torso. Valadez was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:25 a.m.

A gun was recovered at the scene.
