Andrew Steven Lane, 23

Andrew Steven Lane, a 23-year-old black man, was fatally shot Wednesday, April 15, in the 9900 block of Painter Avenue in Santa Fe Springs, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records. 

Lane was walking on Painter Avenue about 7 p.m. when he was approached by a man. The two got into an argument, according to a news release from the Whittier Police Department. The man pulled out a gun from his waist and began firing. Lane was struck in the chest and collapsed on the sidewalk. 

The gunman got into the passenger side of a silver compact vehicle and fled north on Painter Avenue. The suspect was described as a male, black or Latino, and is considered “heavy set.”

Whittier police arrived shortly to the scene and pronounced Lane dead at 7:14 p.m.
