Angela Renee Wilson, 22

Angela Renee Wilson, a 22-year-old black woman, was fatally wounded Sunday, June 16, in the 7400 block of South Figueroa Street in the Vermont Knolls neighborhood, according to L.A. County coroner’s records.

Wilson was walking into a two-story apartment complex about 9:30 p.m. when a gunman fired several shots, striking her, Los Angeles Police Det. Sal LaBarbera said. He said the suspect was Ronnell Lavon Melchor, 23.

Wilson was taken to a hospital, where she died at 9:52 p.m., coroner’s records show. 

Melchor was charged Thursday with one count of murder, according to the L.A. County district attorney's office. He pleaded not guilty and is due back in court July 10. Melchor is being held on $1-million bail, according to Sheriff's Department records.
