A story for every victim

Anthony Hermosillo, 27

Anthony Hermosillo, a 27-year-old Latino, was fatally shot Sunday, Aug. 22, in the 5200 block of Banewell Avenue in Vincent, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Authorities received a call of shots fired about 6:15 p.m., said L.A. County sheriff 's homicide Det. Ron Duval, who is handling the investigation.

When police arrived, they found Hermosillo in his parked car with gunshot wounds. He was taken to County-USC Medical Center, where he died a short time later, Duval said.

While Hermosillo was being taken to the hospital, Covina police stopped a car near Enid Avenue and Arrow Highway. Inside, they found Michael Velez, a 30-year-old Latino, who also had gunshot wounds, Duval said. Paramedics were called, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses to the shooting said two men were shooting at each other. Investigators believe Hermosillo shot Velez, but someone else shot Hermosillo. The third assailant was described as a male Latino.

No arrests have been made in connection with the case, Duval said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Det. Duval at (323) 890-5500.
