Anthony Michael Alaniz, 35

Anthony Michael Alaniz, a 35-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Wednesday, July 25, near West 104th Place and South Figueroa Street in Vermont Vista, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Shortly after 7 p.m., Alaniz got into an argument with another person on the street corner, said Los Angeles Police Det. Nathan Kouri. The other person pulled out a gun and shot Alaniz, Kouri said.

Alaniz was pronounced dead at 7:15 p.m. at the scene, according to coroner’s records.

The gunman then fled south on South Figueroa in a light-colored SUV, police said.

Police are trying to determine the motive of the slaying. Alaniz was not a gang member, police said.
