Recents arrests in three South L.A. killings

Los Angeles police have arrested three men in connection with three separate homicides in South Los Angeles in recent months.


Authorities took Matthew Moore II, 26, into custody Wednesday on suspicion of killing Kevin Bautista on March 27. Bautista, 21, was sitting in the passenger seat of his car in the 1600 block of West 84th Street when two men drove up in a gray sedan, and one got out and confronted him.


On April 20, detectives arrested 37-year-old Charles Holmes, Jr., who has been charged with the fatal shooting of Johnny Thomas, 34. Thomas was shot on Feb. 25 after an argument as he stood at the corner of 93rd Street and Avalon Boulevard.


And on April 22, authorities apprehended Derrick Johnson in Rochester, N.Y. Johnson is a suspect in the 2009 killing of Larick Matheson, 58. The slaying occurred outside Matheson’s home in the 2900 block of Rimpau Boulevard in West Adams.
