A story for every victim

Carlos Francisco Ramirez, 49

Carlos Francisco Ramirez, a 49-year-old Latino, was stabbed to death Thursday, July 12, in the 1700 block of West 7th Street in Westlake, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Shortly after 9 a.m., Ramirez got into an altercation with another man inside a convenience store, said Los Angeles Police Det. Ray Martinez.

The two men went outside and the man Ramirez was fighting with pulled out a knife and stabbed Ramirez multiple times, police said.

Ramirez was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:26 a.m., according to coroner’s records.

It appears that the suspect was upset because his bike had been stolen at a nearby store, according to coroner’s records. Ramirez didn’t have any connection to the store, Martinez said.

David Elhew Mantey, a 40-year-old white man, was charged July 16 with one count of murder, according to online jail records and the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

Mantey is due back in court Sept. 17, prosecutors said.

Anyone with information can call Martinez at (213) 484-3643. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
