Chris Purnell Stephens, 27

Chris Purnell Stephens, a 27-year-old black man, died of a gunshot wound on Monday, June 10, in the 400 block of West 55th street in the Vermont-Slauson neighborhood, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Stephens was standing in front of a home when he got into an argument and was shot by an unknown gunman, said LAPD Det. Sal LaBarbera. Reginald Ross, a 42-year-old black man, was also killed in the shooting.

Detectives believe the shooting was related to a gang dispute, LaBarbera said.

Stephens died at 11:20 p.m., said Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner’s office.
