A story for every victim

Christopher Arumulba Ramirez, 21

Christopher Ramirez, a 21-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Monday, June 27, in the 7300 block of Pacific Boulevard in the Walnut Park community of southeast Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Ramirez was with a group of six male friends who got into a fight with several other men in the commercial area about 9 p.m., said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. Mike Rosson.

During the fight, someone pulled out a handgun and started shooting, Rosson said, striking Ramirez in the upper torso.

Ramirez ran across Pacific Boulevard where he collapsed, Rosson said. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead at 9:59 p.m. from multiple gunshot wounds, according to coroner's records.

Rosson said Ramirez lived in Huntington Park and was not a documented gang member.

Investigators believe that only one gun was involved in the shooting and that the shooter was part of the group fighting Ramirez and his friends, Rosson said.

It's not clear how many men were fighting on the opposing side, Rosson said. Investigators are hoping that they will be able to use surveillance video from nearby businesses to identify them.
