Cleveland Ross, 27

Cleveland Ross, a 27-year-old black man, was shot and killed Thursday, March 12, at 648 W. Century Boulevard in Vermont Vista, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

About 4:45 p.m., Ross was working on his car battery in an AutoZone parking lot when person drove up in a red sedan, exited the driver's side  and opened fire, said LAPD Det. Dave Garrido.

Ross was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5:10 p.m., said Ed Winter, assistant chief of investigations for the coroner's office.
