Hacienda Heights man is sentenced in killing of mother

A Hacienda Heights man was sentenced Feb. 27 to 15 years to life in prison for killing his mother, according to Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

Clifton Huang pleaded no contest to second-degree murder in the death of Vilma Lai Chuen Chau, 63. He was sentenced immediately after his plea.

On Aug. 28, 2013, a family member went to the 63-year-old's home after she did not show up at a gathering, prosecutors said. The family member encountered Huang, who said he had not seen his mother for a few days.

The next day, family returned to the home and discovered Chau’s body in the trunk of her Mercedes-Benz. Chau was bound and tied, according to evidence presented during the trial. Huang was arrested Sept. 3, 2013.
