A story for every victim

Cristian Frank Sanchez, 20

Cristian Frank Sanchez, a 20-year-old Latino, was shot and killed on Saturday, April 1, in the 2600 block of Calle Martos in Duarte, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Neighbors called Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies about 4:20 p.m. to report a possible burglary at a vacant house, said Lt. Joe Mendoza. The house had been vacant for some time, Mendoza said, but neighbors heard voices around the property so they called 911.

When deputies arrived, they found Sanchez inside the house with a gunshot wound to the chest, Mendoza said. Sanchez, a resident of La Puente, was pronounced dead at the scene at  5:37 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

Investigators believe Sanchez had been shot a short time before he was found but they don’t have any suspect information or a motive, Mendoza said. Neighbors didn’t hear any shots, Mendoza said. “They heard the voices, but no gunfire.”

It looked like people had been frequenting the house for some time, “just to hang out,” Mendoza said. It’s not known whether Sanchez had been staying at the house.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500. Those wishing to remain anonymous should call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
