A story for every victim

David John Ruiz, 59

David John Ruiz, a 59-year-old Latino, was killed Tuesday, June 16, in the 40200 block of 164th Street East in Lake Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Deputies were called to the residence of Ruiz’s girlfriend about 1:18 p.m. regarding a person who was injured and bleeding, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Victor Lewandowski. When they arrived, they found Ruiz lying in the bedroom, bleeding and unresponsive.

Ruiz was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:36 p.m., according to coroner’s records. He lived a few blocks away, Lewandowski said.

The victim’s girlfriend, Linda Clarene Jackson, a 59-year-old black woman, was arrested on suspicion of murder. Jackson told investigators that she found Ruiz unresponsive when she came into her bedroom, “but her version of events was not consistent with the evidence,” Lewandowski said.

Jackson was scheduled to be arraigned on one count of murder Friday. She is accused of bludgeoning Ruiz to death using cans of food, according to prosecutors.

Jackson is being held in lieu of $1 million bail.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
