A story for every victim

David Joseph Macias Jr., 19

David Joseph Macias, a 19-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Monday, Nov. 14, in the 4600 block of Imperial Highway near Eucalyptus Avenue in Hawthorne, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Macias was walking westbound on the sidewalk on Imperial Highway, heading toward his home, when two men approached him about 9 p.m., said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Joe Mendoza.

Witnesses reported hearing a brief argument, then gunshots, Mendoza said.

Macias was shot several times in the torso, Mendoza said. He ran west to Eucalyptus Avenue then turned south, collapsing in the 11500 block of Eucalyptus, not far from his home.

Neighbors saw him fall and called 911, Mendoza said. Macias was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 9:30 p.m.

The assailants, described as Latino adults, were seen running northbound away from the shooting scene, Mendoza said.

Investigators don’t know what the argument was about, Mendoza said, and they don't have a  motive for the shooting.
