A story for every victim

Davon McConnell, 20

Davon McConnell, a 20-year-old black man, was fatally stabbed Wednesday, April 20, in the 900 block of South Elden Avenue in Westlake, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Shortly before 1 a.m., officers were called to an apartment regarding a dispute, said Los Angeles Police Lt. John Radtke. McConnell had come over to visit and began fighting with a woman. The woman claimed that McConnell attacked her, and she said she defended herself by stabbing him with a knife, Radtke said.

McConnell was stabbed as many as seven times, in a “very, very disturbing scene,” Radtke said.

“Although she claims it’s self defense, there were significant stab wounds,” he said.

McConnell and the woman have a child who was inside the home when the stabbing occurred.

Taylor Bagnerise, a 22-year black woman, was arrested on suspicion of murder, police said. Bagnerise was charged with one count of murder with a special allegation that she used a knife to kill McConnell, according to a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

An arraignment was continued to May 5, and bail was set at $1.02 million, the spokeswoman said.
