A story for every victim

Dax Jordan Quintana Oliveira

Dax Jordan Quintana Oliveira, a 2-month-old Latino boy, died Thursday, Aug. 31, after suffering head and neck trauma in the 3500 block of Brenton Avenue in Lynnwood, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies were called to the Oliveira home about 3 p.m. Aug. 29 regarding an unresponsive baby, Lt. Derrick Alfred said.

Paramedics took the baby to the hospital, where he was treated for trauma to his head and neck, Alfred said.

Dax was pronounced dead at the hospital two days later at 5:36 a.m., according to coroner’s records.

Investigators think Dax had been shaken violently by his father. Both the boy’s parents were home and in the same room at the time, Alfred said.

Dax’s father, Sanderson de Oliveira, also known as Sanderson Dantas, a 33-year-old Brazilian, was arrested the day his son was taken to the hospital and then released pending further investigation, Alfred said.

Deputies again arrested Oliveira on Sept. 13. He was charged with assault on a child, causing death, said Sarah Ardalani, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

Oliveira was arraigned on Sept. 18 and pleaded not guilty. He is being held in lieu of $5-million bail. His next court appearance is set for Dec. 11.
