Dayan Cornelius, 29

Dayan Cornelius, a 29-year-old black man, died Wednesday, April 26, nearly a month after he was shot in the 4400 block of South Western Avenue in Vermont Square, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Shortly after 9 p.m. Tuesday, March 28, Cornelius had stopped at a gas station when a light-colored sedan pulled alongside his vehicle, Los Angeles Police Det. Dave Garrido said.

Two men got out of the sedan, shot at Cornelius, then fled in the vehicle. Police are still trying to determine which way they went.

Cornelius, who was alone at the station, was taken to a hospital. He was pronounced dead at 12:07 p.m. April 26, according to coroner’s records.
