Dean Hyde, a 44-year-old black man, was shot and killed Monday, March 21, in the 800 block of West 48th Street in Vermont Square, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Hyde was standing in front of a residence when a man walked up and shot him about 9:30 p.m., according to a news release from the Los Angeles Police Department.

"Neighbors reported hearing an argument followed by multiple gunshots, then a vehicle speeding away," according to police, who said witnesses described the shooter as a black man who got into a dark-colored SUV driven by others and left the scene.

Detectives said they believed the shooting was gang-related.

Hyde, whose identity was not immediately released, was taken by paramedics to a hospital where he died.
