A story for every victim

Donniesha Gregory, 32

Donniesha Gregory, a 32-year-old black woman, was shot and killed Monday, July 16, in the 4000 block of Dalton Avenue in Vermont Square, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

About 9:45 p.m., patrol officers from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Southwest Division responded to a call of a shooting and found Gregory inside her home with a gunshot wound, said Los Angeles Police Det. Dave Garrido.

Gregory was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:03 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

Investigators discovered that minutes before the shooting, the woman’s ex-boyfriend had driven over and parked outside, police said. The man wanted Gregory to come down from her second floor home and outside and she refused; he shot up at her and through her window, Garrido said.

The man fled the scene in a green Camry, police said.

Donte Solomon, a 40-year-old black man, was charged July 23 with one count of murder, shooting at an inhabited dwelling and possession of a firearm by a felon, according to online records and the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

The charges include gang and gun allegations, prosecutors said. Solomon is due back in court Sept. 10.
