Donyea Davis, 22

Donyea Davis, a 22-year-old black man, was shot and killed Friday May 22, in the 12100 block of Birch Avenue in Hawthorne, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Shortly after 5:30 p.m., the Hawthorne Police Department responded to a call of a person down at an apartment complex. When police arrived they found Davis in the courtyard of the complex, suffering from a gunshot wound, according to a news release from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, which is aiding in the investigation.

Davis was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:36 p.m., said Ed Winter, assistant chief of investigations for the coroner’s office.
