Earl Hervey, 19 [Updated]

Earl Hervey, a 19-year-old black man, was stabbed to death Monday, Sept. 13, in the 11000 block of Menlo Avenue in Vermont Vista, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Hervey got into a fight with a friend at about 7:05 p.m. and was stabbed numerous times in the left leg, said Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office.

He was taken to a hospital, where he died 40 minutes later, according to coroner's records.

Winter did not have any additional information about the case.

The Times has contacted investigators about the incident and will provide more details as they become available.

[Update, Oct. 5: LAPD Criminal Gang and Homicide Det. Scott Smith said an arrest has been made in connection with the case.

Rodney Goldson, a 44-year-old black man, was taken into custody a day after the incident and charged with one count of murder.

Smith said Hervey and Goldson were in a relationship, and a domestic dispute led to the stabbing.

Goldson is currently being held at the Men's Central Jail downtown in lieu of $1.02 million bail. His next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 14 at the Compton Superior Court.]
