Eddie Carroll, a 40-year-old black man, was shot and killed Sunday, Feb. 21, in the 600 block of East 48th Street in South Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Carroll was at a residence when he got into an argument with the boyfriend of his girlfriend’s daughter late Saturday evening. The dispute became heated and the boyfriend shot Carroll, said Ed Winter, a spokesman for the coroner's office.

Authorities were called to the scene and Carroll was pronounced dead at 12:35 a.m. The boyfriend was taken into custody, Winter said.

[Updated March 22: On Feb. 21, Frank Howard, a 48-year-old black man, was arrested in connection with the death of Eddie Carroll. Howard was charged with one count of murder and two counts of assault with a firearm, said a spokesman from the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

According to County Jail records, Howard is being held at Twin Towers jail in lieu $2,100,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled at the Criminal Justice Center for April 2.]
