Edward Lee Gaines, 21

Edward Gaines, a 21-year-old black man, was shot and killed Saturday, Nov. 19, in the 1100 block of South Amantha Avenue in Compton, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office, said Gaines was playing football on a street with several people about 9:53 a.m. when a person exited a vehicle and began shooting at the group.

Authorities were called and Gaines was taken to a hospital in Torrance where he was pronounced dead at 12:05 p.m.

Coroner's records show the victim died from a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Winter had no other information about the case.
