Esquivel Castillo, a 51-year-old Latino, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, eight days after he was assaulted near 55th Street and Hooper Avenue in Central-Alameda, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Castillo was injured shortly after midnight Jan. 17, said LAPD Newton Det. Dan Gershna, who is handling the case.

He was taken to County-USC Medical Center where he remained until his death Jan. 25. According to coroner's records, Castillo died from blunt head trauma.

There have been no arrests made in connection with the case, officials said.

Citing the ongoing investigation, Gershna declined to provide additional details about the homicide investigation.
