A story for every victim

Fernando Zamorano, 33

Fernando Zamorano, a 33-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Saturday, Aug. 13, in the 6000 block of East Olympic Boulevard in East Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Zamorano was standing in the parking lot of Lito’s Corkroom around 1 a.m. when two Latinos walked by on the sidewalk, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Steve Jauch.

Coroner’s records said Zamorano asked the men where they were from, but Jauch said he couldn’t confirm any conversation.

“We just know that two male Hispanics walked by him heading east and one of them produced a handgun and opened fire,” Jauch said.

Witnesses told investigators that the men were last seen running north through the parking lot and out of view, Jauch said.

Zamorano was pronounced dead at the scene with a gunshot wound at 1:15 a.m., according to coroner’s records.

Jauch said Zamorano lived in Commerce, but investigators don’t know whether he or the suspects had been inside the bar or had contact before the shooting.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500. Those wishing to remain anonymous should call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
