Francisco Martinez, 24

Francisco Martinez, a 24-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Sunday, July 17, in the 7800 block of Lemp Avenue in Sun Valley, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Officers responded to a call regarding a possible assault with a deadly weapon about 11:20 p.m., according to an LAPD news release.

When authorities arrived, they found Martinez and at least one other person shot, officials said. The two were taken to a hospital where Martinez was pronounced dead. The other victim was listed in critical condition.

During the investigation, detectives learned that Martinez was attending a party at a home with a couple of friends. At some point, a group of unknown people walked up, began fighting with Martinez and his friends, then shot at them, officials said.

Investigators believe the shooting was gang-related.
