Freddy Orlando Mendoza, 27

Freddy Orlando Mendoza, a 27-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Saturday, May 27, near South Main Street and West 77th Street in Florence, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

About 8 p.m., Mendoza and another person, Geovanny Antonio Mendez-Gomez, 24, were standing outside a market when a gunman walked up and began shooting multiple rounds at the two, Los Angeles Police Det. Dave Garrido said.

The shooter ran to a waiting vehicle, possibly a dark-colored sedan. Police think the incident is related to recent gang activity in the area.

Mendez-Gomez was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:15 p.m. Mendoza was taken to a hospital, where he later died.
