Gabriel Lopez-Gonzalez, 22

Gabriel Lopez-Gonzalez, a 22-year-old Latino, was shot and killed by a San Fernando city police officer Tuesday, Aug. 12, in the 800 block of South Brand Boulevard in San Fernando, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Shortly after 3 p.m., San Fernando police responded to a home regarding a man with a gun call, according to a news release from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, which has joined the investigation.

When police arrived, an 18-year-old woman ran out of the home with a gunshot wound. As officers approached the home, they were confronted by a man, later identified as Lopez-Gonzalez, “who produced a handgun, and an officer-involved shooting occurred,” according to the release.

Lopez-Gonzalez was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:20 p.m. by the city Fire Department.

The woman was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to survive. Deputies recovered a loaded handgun at the scene.
