A story for every victim

Gabriel Miccio, 27

Gabriel Miccio, a 27-year-old Latino, died on Sunday, Jan. 15, after he was shot in the 7900 block of Hill Drive in South San Gabriel, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

About 9 p.m., Miccio was standing at the top of a long driveway outside his residence, talking to one of his siblings, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sgt. Marcelo Quintero.

Someone standing on the sidewalk or street fired at least one round from a distance, Quintero said, striking Miccio in the chest. The sibling was uninjured, but didn't see the shooter, he said.

Miccio was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 9:25 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

Investigators don’t have a description of the shooter, and they’re unsure about the motive, Quintero said Miccio had been affiliated with a gang from another part of Los Angeles before he moved to his home in South San Gabriel, which is in another known gang area.

“We don’t know if we’re dealing with a personal issue here, or a gang turf issue, but we believe he was the target," Quintero said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500. Those wishing to remain anonymous should call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
