Garry “Twin” Dorton, a 48-year-old black man, was shot and killed Sunday, July 1, in the 4500 block of South Van Ness Avenue in Hyde Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

About 7:30 p.m., Dorton and a 33-year-old man had just pulled into a home’s driveway and gotten out of a vehicle when another vehicle stopped in the middle of the road, said Los Angeles Police Det. Dave Garrido.

Two people got out of the vehicle and fired multiple shots, Garrido said. The vehicle, described as a dark-colored sedan, fled.

Dorton was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 8 p.m., according to coroner’s records. The other man Dorton was with was wounded and remains hospitalized, Garrido said.
