Glendale man sentenced for murder of grandparents
A Glendale man was sentenced June 23 to 41 years to life in prison for killing his grandparents at the home they shared, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.
Nathaniel Wayne Scheiern, 36, pleaded no contest on April 27 to first- and second-degree murder in the deaths of Verna Irene Scheiern and William Karl Scheiern.
Sometime between June 24 and June 25, 2015, Scheiern attacked and killed his 82-year-old grandmother with an ax, according to court testimony. He then killed his 77-year-old grandfather with a hammer after the man tried to intervene, prosecutors said.
The bodies of the couple were discovered by police June 28, 2015, after a family member said they couldn't be reached and called authorities.
