A story for every victim

Greta Rose Kurian, 22

Greta Kurian, a 22-year-old white woman, was fatally shot Monday, Nov. 21, in the 100 block of Park Avenue in Long Beach, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Officers were called about 10 p.m. to a possible domestic violence incident at a condo in the 1000 block of Park Avenue, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

The condo’s door was ajar, and inside officers found Kyle Kurian, 25, and his wife, Greta Kurian, 22, with gunshot wounds in their upper torsos, police said.

Greta Kurian was pronounced dead at the scene. Her husband, a South Gate police officer, was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His death was ruled a suicide, according to coroner’s records

Police said Kyle Kurian killed his wife before shooting himself, but the case is under investigation by homicide detectives. Investigators recovered a handgun inside the condo.

According to Kyle Kurian’s LinkedIn page, he briefly worked for the Los Angeles Police Department. The South Gate Police Department confirmed Tuesday that he recently joined their force.

The couple’s children, a toddler and an infant, were at home during the shooting and were placed in the care of the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services.

Family members of the slain couple have started an online campaign to raise money for the educational needs of the two young children.
