A story for every victim

Hakilmy Devon Johnson, 19

Hakilmy Johnson, a 19-year-old black man, was fatally shot Saturday, Sept. 24, in the 200 block of West 47th Street in South Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Los Angeles police responded to a disturbance at a home. When they arrived at the scene they heard gunshots coming from the house.

Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene and eight people were taken to hospitals, two of them in critical condition.

During the investigation, it was learned the residence was holding a "flier party" in which guests were charged an admission fee, police say.

Detectives believe Johnson was not a target of the gunman, according to a Los Angeles Police Department source familiar with the investigation.

Law enforcement sources said a possible suspect had been identified, but they declined to release his name.

Another police source said investigators suspect that a dispute over a woman sparked the shooting. The sources spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation is ongoing.

Armando Valencia, who was at the party, recalled hearing shots and feeling bullets fly over his head as he dropped to the ground in the backyard of the house.

"You can hear the sound of it, then hear the impact. It was wild," he said.

Anyone with information about the fatal shooting is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
