Ian James Samuel Jr., 19

Ian James Samuel Jr., a 19-year-old black man, was fatally shot Sunday, Oct. 23, in the 6400 block of Woodley Avenue in Van Nuys, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Shortly before 11:30 p.m., Samuel was standing on a sidewalk when a person walked up to him and shot him, said Los Angeles Police Det. Dave Peteque. Samuel ran a short distance before collapsing on the front porch of a home.

Samuel was pronounced dead at 12:30 a.m. at the scene, according to coroner’s records.

Peteque declined to elaborate on a possible motive but said that Samuel was targeted.

“We don’t feel like this was a straight-out random shooting,” he said.
