A story for every victim

Israel Macias, 29

Israel Macias, a 29-year-old Latino, was pronounced dead Wednesday, Jan. 25, three days after he was shot in the 9300 block of Elm Vista Drive in Downey, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Macias was shot in the head during a home-invasion robbery Jan. 22.

Downey police Sgt. Dan Baker said three male suspects forced their way into Macias' residence "looking for valuables."

Once inside, a struggle ensued, spilling outside to the front yard, where one of the suspects fired at least two rounds from a handgun, wounding Macias in the head.

Five of Macias' adult relatives were also in the residence, Baker said. Investigators had only a vague description of the suspects, who fled in a white or light-colored car.

After the shooting, Macias was taken to a hospital, where he remained on life support until his death three days later.
