Ivan Alberto Covarrubias, 39

Ivan Alberto Covarrubias, a 39-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Saturday, Feb. 9, in the 6300 block of Specht Avenue in Bell Gardens, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records. 

Covarrubias was discovered lying on the sidewalk about 12:05 a.m. near the corner of Specht and East Gage Avenue, according to coroner’s records. He had a gunshot wound to his back. 

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau detectives were called to the scene to help the Bell Gardens Police Department investigate the shooting. 

Covarrubias lived in Norwalk, about nine miles southeast of where he was shot. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead at 12:45 a.m., according to coroner’s records. 

Investigators have no further information about the shooting, according to a sheriff’s department news release.
