A story for every victim

Jai Shaun Lewis, 11

Jai Shaun Lewis, an 11-year-old black male, was stabbed to death Monday, May 27 in the 200 block of South Carondelet Street in Westlake, according to L.A. County coroner's spokesman Ed Winter.

Lewis was stabbed multiple times during an apparent family fight that morning, police said. Police also found the boy’s 26-year-old stepfather, Rineson Curtis Adams, on the front lawn of the apartment complex with stab wounds to his shoulder.

The boy was taken to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, where he died at 9:33 a.m., Winter said.

The next day, prosecutors charged Adams with one count of willful, deliberate and premeditated murder with a special allegation of the personal use of a deadly and dangerous weapon. He also faces one count of felony child abuse, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.
